Look Up - Look Down

For this simple and interesting game, the players should be in even number and one facilitator should be appointed. Ask all the players to stand in a circle with their heads-down. The facilitator will instruct the group to either "look-up" or "look-down" as per his or her choice. When the facilitator yells "look-up", the participants have to look at each other's and once they look at somebody, they have to become still (the players cannot change their direction of sight until the next instruction). If they look into each other's eyes that is, maintain eye contact, then they have to shout at the top of their voice and the one who shouts last will be out of the game. Repeat this until only two players are left. To decide a winner among the remaining two players, a tug of war can be organized.

Hail Storm

Age Group: 9-12 years
Game Objective: A typical summer camp game for kids that would make kids go crazy and a little drenched.
Game Learning: Catching
No. of Players: At least 12 kids. More the better!
Materials Required:
  • Lots of white sponge balls.
  • Some empty juice bottles and soda cans.
  • A big bucket full of water.
  • A red marking tape.
  • A clothesline.
  • Some full sized bed sheets.
  • Some clothe clips.
How to Play:
  • Tie the clothesline between two trees at a reasonable height, say 6 feet.
  • Create a temporary wall by hanging the bed sheets on the clothesline side by side.
  • The wall width should be at least 15 to 18 feet.
  • The bed sheets should touch the ground level completely.
  • Use clothe clips to hold the sheets together and seal any visible gaps.
  • On one side of the wall, make a square considering the wall as one of its sides i.e. if the virtual wall is 18 feet wide then, the square will be of 18 x 18 feet.
  • On the other side of the wall make a semi circle taking the wall as its diameter.
  • Mark them with the marker tape.
  • Appoint an adult scorekeeper.
  • Make two teams and let them take their sides opposite to each other.
  • Both the teams should not be visible to each other and must stay within their boundaries.
  • Give a large bucket full of water with lots of soaked sponge balls in it to the side standing on the semi circle side of the wall.
  • Also give some other items like empty soda cans and plastic juice bottles to the same team.
  • The game starts with the score keeper yelling “Hail Storm!”
  • The kids on the semi circle side will start tossing the sponge balls and other stuff over the other side of the wall, one by one or simultaneously.
  • The kids on the other side of the wall (square side) must run around within the square to catch all the showering items.
  • The kids catching the sponge balls etc must stuff them in their pockets or inside their shirts. Any fallen item cannot be picked up again.
  • The sponge balls that have fallen outside the square boundary cannot be touched.
  • This will continue till all the items have been exhausted by the throwing team.
  • The score keeper will total the score. Every item caught will add one point, every item dropped within the square boundary will deduct one point and any item landed outside the boundary will give two bonus points to the catching team.
  • Teams will change sides and other side will now get the chance to do the catching and accumulate points.
  • Once both the side’s turn is over, score keeper will tally the scores and the side with more points WINS this cool kids camp game!
My Tip :
  • This kids camp game can also be played as a fun water game between neighbors on a hot sunny day. If you have a common wall that’s good, otherwise, use the same technique to make your own virtual wall and get going… Get drenched with kids and beat the heat!

Hunters & Stalkers

Age Group: 8-12 years
Game Objective: In this wonderful kids camp games the teams have to accomplish a task before their opponents.
Game Learning: Observation, coordination and speed.
No. of Players: 10 or more.
Materials Required:
  • Blue & green flags, 2 each.
  • 2 small flashlights.
  • A piece of chalk.
How to Play:
  • Before the game starts, hide a “Green Flag” at a fair distance from the camp and a “Blue Flag” in the close proximity to the green flag.
  • The flags can either be hung on a tree or hidden in the bushes.
  • Make 2 outline maps. “Green Map” indicating the location of the green flag from the camp base and “Blue Map” indicating the location of the blue flag from the point of location of green flag.
  • Make 2 teams and name them “Green Hunters” and “Blue Stalkers”.
  • Give a Green Flag, a piece of chalk, a flashlight and the Green Map to Green Hunters.
  • Give a Blue Flag, a flashlight and the Blue Map to Blue Stalkers.
  • Let the Green Hunters leave for the flag hunt at least a couple of minutes before the Blue Stalkers.
  • The Blue Stalkers, till that time, will wait inside a tent. So that they cannot see in which direction the Green Hunters have left.
  • Green hunters have to make the directional arrows with the chalk on the trees and rocks for Blue stalkers to follow.
  • Blue Hunters, when their time starts, will have to figure out quickly where the Green Hunters have gone by following the directional arrows marked by them.
  • Both will carry their respective maps with them to reach their target. But Blue Stalkers have no choice except to stalk the Green Hunters till they find their green flag and from that point they can trace their Blue Flag as indicated in the map.
  • The teams after finding their flags have to first, plant the other flag they brought with them on the ground and then rush back to the camp base with the prize flag.
  • The first team (the flag bearer) to return to the camp base is the Winner!!!
My Tip :
  • Play this game in the evening just before dusk. The fun will begin when the teams may want to use their flashlights to read the maps or read the directional arrows but avoiding it so that the opposition may not come to know their location by following the light.

Soccer Baskeball

Description
Divide the group into two teams. Each team starts off with 6 players. One player on each team acts as a goalie under the basketball rim.
The goal is for each team to pass the ball around and get to the rim and score without the other team stealing the ball. If the ball is droped then you must kick the ball into the designated area passed the goalie. Shots are worth 1 or 2 points and goals are worth 7 points. You can substitute your players in and out as much as you want. (Camp counselors are to act as coaches.) Basketball rules apply while ball is in the air, and soccer rules apply while ball is on the floor.
Balloon Foosball
Seated teams try and hit a balloon over the opposing team into the goal
Materials
2 Balloons, chairs
How To Play
Arrange chairs in multiple pairs of rows with each pair having the seats back-to-back. Each row should be roughly 6 chairs long. Have players sit in the chair.
The chairs represent two teams - the direction the chair is facing signifies what team that student is on.
The facilitator drops two balloons in. Players may not stand but must try and hit the balloon over the opposing team to the next row. If a team hits the balloon over the last line of defenders, it counts as a goal.
Typically the game has multiple goals and tends to work well if gameplay does not stop between goals.

Compass Name Game

  7. If the person correctly identifies the name, the caller must move onto a new person of their choice.
